We are living in the world of " clicks". "cheap"is the favorite word for human kind, therefore traditional media is expensive compared to digital. people are to busy to go to markets and buy newspapers, magazines nor just to walk around and be handed flyers, pamphlets. Digital media ranges from text to video and sound, can be saved and shared electronically, utilizing everything from computers to mobile devices. This electronic dissemination of information has had a powerful impact on the way people communicate for personal reasons, school and even business.
Why digital media
An applause to digital media, organisations can disseminate information to the public faster than ever. Instead of printing inserts and waiting for the paper to announce their sales, companies now can let the universe know about a certain promotion through email , social networks, their websites or internet adverts. What an advantage for Public relations Practitioners. My heart lies with the Big Five (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogging and YouTube) , What a convenient way to communicate with stakeholders, cool huh? Practitioners are the encourages of digital advertising, almost all their work is done online, remember PR is the management through communication. Well, isn't bit convincing enough that Practitioners have won this game of digital advertising? Why? Because it doesn't take a minute to reach stakeholders through online advertising. There is nothing that interest me than the idea of how easy technology made the lives of marketers like Practitioners and people in general. Every time the "digital media" phrase appears I am reminded of the quote I abstracted from a vedeo i saw on YouTube " lookup by Gary Turk"...I find it very interesting, its like we are reminded of how technology spoiled us, yet informed how convenient it makes life
Greater Reach
Digital media gives the meaning to "organisations can reach more audiences more than ever before". A mere promotion along with a giveaway or a freebie can earn a business millions of Facebook fans and email and text message subscribers, just by by touch of a button. However, digital media also defines a two-way communication. consumers mention their preferences and their dislikes with the organisation through digital media, while Practitioners also sleep on the internet, just to find out what the audience really want. I couldn't be more happier to wake up in this digital age as a Public relations student. Isn't it so amazing how you could just sit on your couch the whole day and just let things come to you? The world is just a better place.
I couldn't agree with you more. We sure do live in a digital world. In actual fact? we are supposed to, simple because we live in a more than just modernized world. It only makes sense hey.
ReplyDeleteToo modernized Phetheka, it excites me
Deleteefficiency my dear,efficiency...Time, low cost and profit rules the world
ReplyDeletePractitioners are an asset to organisations, why? simply because they found a better, cheap and faster way to advertise and communicate with stakeholders. Time is way too valuable to be wasted, and with inflation and interest rates on the hand# Hectic.... low cost is the word
Deletecouldn't agree any better
Deletetraditional marketing remain the only rational option to get proper feed back especially about a new product ,and to many security risks with online marketing too many hackers these days ,on the other side digital world is really fascinating am actually waiting for the day where we will be able to download food that's power right there ,sthokoze nice article
ReplyDeleteDownload food huh, i wouldn't be surprised if it happened... this technology is moving to fast.
Deleteyou know Mr Mokwena, theres always an untivirus to any technological software. talking about security risks, true i agree but from experience as an IT guy i can tell you that a virus is a way of hacking is released with it solution, "antivirus'. it helps to be computer literate and update your security always...coming to my next issue, traditional marketing is really unreable, think abt time, post offise strikes for example, did you see the effect that it made on mailing? think about trafic. you said something about proper feedback, no man we do that with colour faxing and emailing then is as good as is it was deliverd by a post man. MY VIEW :)
DeleteI'm impressed by the article but i'm concerned about the safety of the people since we know that digital media has its pros and cons. A judicious decision must be taken rather than just focusing on the low cost and profit while putting people lives in jeopardy.Easier to have outdated information on internet, update timing is a critical issue here.(Good input though).
ReplyDeleteI am not saying your wrong, but i would like to beg to differ with you. for example if you are talking about invasion of privacy in our online life... we always have an option to not disclose at all or hide the information from certain people or the unknown. Digital media has brought nothing but easy life
DeleteGreat blog, no one has time to go around carrying the well known big City Press newspaper if we have it all in a simple portable device. Thanks to those who ensure that we get our daily fresh feeds, the PRP's of course.
ReplyDeleteI applaud this profession
